As per latest news of dholera greenfield international airport of dholera, Cabinet approves development of phase 1 Dholera International Airport in Dholera Gujarat. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said the airport would be connected by multi-modal connectivity like railways and highways. In the first phase, It will cost over Rs 1300 crore.
Passenger traffic at Ahmedabad Airport is steadily increasing. Currently the airport is handling more passengers than its capacity. Since there is no space around Ahmedabad Airport then, it cannot be expanded with additional runways. In this situation, Dholera Greenfield International Airport will be prepared by the Center and the State Government at a distance of 80 km from Ahmedabad and 20 km from Dholera for the convenience of the passengers of the state including Ahmedabad. The airport has received approval from all departments, including the environment of the Central and State Governments.
the first phase will be 3200 meters which will be extended to 3800 meters in the second phase. DIACL is 51 per cent owned by the Airports Authority of India, 33 per cent by the Government of Gujarat and 16 per cent by the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust. The state government has leased 3000 acres of land to the company.
It is learned that a 3200 meter long runway suitable for 4E aircraft will be developed from Dholera International Airport. A second runway will be built in the third phase of the project. When all three phases are completed, the airport will be able to handle up to 100 million passengers annually. 12 aprons will be built for aircraft parking and a passenger terminal will be built on 20,000 square meters of land. Highlights of Dholera International Airport:
- Estimated cost of Rs.7305 crore
- To be completed within 48 months.
- Operationalization planned from year 2025-26.
- Initial passenger traffic estimated at 3 lakh passengers per annum.
- Passenger traffic expected to grow upto 23 Iakh in 20 years.
- Annual cargo traffic estimated at 20,000 tonne from year 2025-26
- Cargo expected to increase upto 2,73,000 tonne over 20 years.
It may be mentioned here that even in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, the government had said that the work of the International Airport being built near Dholera near Ahmedabad would be completed in four years. The revised estimated cost of the project was fixed at Rs. 1305 crore. However, work on the project has not yet begun. The tendering process for Part-1 of the first phase of development was completed.
